| This book is an attempt to
overcome the negativity of the Feminist critique of traditional
Christian civilization, by searching for the positive sources of
masculinity and femininity as these can be discovered through the study
of history, psychology, theology, and philosophy. Each article
considers one aspect of the modern assault on the very uniqueness of
the masculine and the feminine personality, as traditionally
appreciated, while, at the same time, offering insights |
|
| into those personalities
and suggestions as to how they might be fostered and recovered in the
egalitarian democratic age of the 21st century. We have had enough of
facile critiques, by those who are nothing but hesitant liberals. The
only way that we can hope for a future in which the masculine and
feminine personalities can develop to their fullest extent, is by
trying to recover a full appreciation for the gender differences, which
our grandparents took for granted. If Aristotle is right and the
differentiation of roles between husband and wife, men and women, is
the most basic constitutive element of advanced human civilization, we
had better reject our current world-view that repudiates or
intentionally overlooks the differentiation of roles and, instead,
affirm one of the created realities, which gives diversity, color, and
life to world in which we live. How can men be men and women be women?
Let us think together and we might rediscover that which, for men and
women of past ages, was a given. |
