Birthright and the services they provide, and other
similar organizations, are examples of love for every pregnant woman
and her child. On the other hand, society, to a great degree, has
abandoned women. Women are being manipulated by the media, forced to
abort their children by boyfriends, husband, or parents, with threats
of abandonment if they don't, and are surrounded by pro-abortion
feminist rhetoric which portrays abortion, not as an alternative to
childbirth, but as preferable to childbirth. The price women pay for
this abandonment and exploitation is extremely high. Although so-called
"legal" abortion is portrayed as "safe and easy," we are all well aware
that it is not. The quick-fix abortion to an unplanned pregnancy
results in half of all aborted women experiencing some immediate, or
long-term, physical complications, and almost all suffer from emotional
or psychological problems.
Approximately 10% of women will suffer immediate
complications after undergoing an elective abortion. The nine most
common complications that can occur at the time of an abortion are:
infection, excessive bleeding, embolism, ripping or perforation of the
uterus, anesthesia complications, convulsions, hemorrhage, cervical
injury and endotoxic shock. The most common minor complications
include: infection, bleeding, fever, second-degree burns, chronic
abdominal pain, and vomiting and gastrointestinal disturbances.
Studies show that a minimum of 19% of post-abortion
women suffer from diagnosable posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
PTSD is a psychological dysfunction caused by a traumatic experience
that overwhelms a person's normal defense mechanisms, resulting in
intense fear, feelings of helplessness or being trapped, or loss of
control. Some PTSD victims may experience intense emotion without clear
memory of the abortion; others may remember every detail, but without
emotion; still others may re-experience both the event and the emotions
in intrusive and overwhelming flashback experiences.
A woman will often go through with an abortion without
ever being informed of the physical and emotional risks associated with
having that abortion and without ever receiving information as to the
many alternatives to getting an abortion. She is often misled,
misinformed, or not provided any information at all by the medical
staff concerning the abortion procedure itself. The medical staff often
ignores the woman's statements that she was feeling pressure from
someone else to have the abortion. The woman is sometimes feeling
pressured by the medical staff themselves to go through with the
abortion. This often results in the quick-fix abortion that brings an
end to the life of the unborn child and physical and psychological harm
to the mother.
The price of a quick fix to an unexpected pregnancy is
too high. It is too high for the mother and it is absolutely too high
for the unborn child. There is so much help that can be provided.
Pregnancy Center Resources, government programs and adoption services
are available for women who are in need of counseling and other
assistance during their pregnancy.
If an abortion has already occurred, organizations and
attorneys are available to women who require post-abortion counseling
or legal assistance.
Women do not have to be afraid to come forward for
assistance during their pregnancy. They do not have to be afraid to
come forward for assistance following an abortion. Counselors and
attorneys keep all information confidential. Women are encouraged to
get the help and information they need NOW, before it's too late.
